| Inmate flown to hospital after assault |

Last Thursday morning a prisoner in the New Liberty County (Texas) Jail was assaulted by another prisoner being escorted to a recreation area. According to Liberty County Sheriff Greg Arthur, 41-year-old Jason Grady Blake III was being escorted to the recreation area in a group of prisoners. As the group passed the laundry room where 38-year-old Saad Hamed Khan Lodhi (right) of Cleveland was working, Blake stepped into the laundry room and hit Lodhi twice with his fist-- knocking him unconscious and causing lacerations to his face and head. Lodhi was rushed to UTMB in Galveston by medical helicopter for treatment. Recently, according to Sheriff Arthur, the jail has cracked down on tobacco use in the jail, which violates its operational policy. Prisoners returning to the jail who work outside the jail in assigned work crews are thought to be the source of tobacco products entering the jail. It is theorized by investigators that Blake possibly thought Lodhi might have been a snitch and source of information concerning tobacco entering the jail. Lodhi was in jail for Sexual Assault of a Child and INS also had a hold on him. Blake was in jail for Aggravated Assault, Bail Jumping and Revocation of Probation. Captain Todd Mauthe says Blake is now in a jail cell segregated from the rest of the jail population. Currently Assault Charges are pending against Blake and are expected to be filed as soon as investigators discover the intent of Lodhi's injuries. |
