LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say 42-year-old Richard Shell was caught in Lexington.

He escaped from the Blackburn Correctional Complex Tuesday morning.

Police in Southern Kentucky are concerned about the whereabouts about a man who escaped Tuesday from a prison in Lexington.

Officials say Richard Todd Shell, 42, apparently has ties to Laurel County. The Laurel County sheriff's office says Shell has an extensive criminal background in Laurel County and several nearby communities, Gilbert Acciardo of the Laurel County Sheriff's Office said.

Acciardo says they don't think he is dangerous, but but they say Shell has been incarcerated numerous times and was accused of running from them. He's had previous addresses of Corbin, Clay County and Tom Cat Trial in London. He's faced several charges, including resisting arrest, drugs and robbery. Most recently, Shell was sentenced in Laurel Circuit Court to 7 years on a charge of receiving stolen property.
