Officers’ information mistakenly shared was not seen, Department of Corrections says

When personal information of more than 1,000 Illinois Department of Corrections employees was inadvertently shared, the department began an investigation. A week later, a spokesperson from the department said the information was not seen by unauthorized people.

The data breach was discovered on August 14, 2015, investigators found out that a private citizen had placed a FOIA request on behalf of an inmate, according to a statement from the department. That request asked for names, job ranks/positions, and salaries of employees who worked for Dixon and Lawrence Correctional Centers during 2015’s fiscal year.

It was discovered that in addition to that information, the employees’ Social Security numbers were shared as well, according to the statement.
