Lake Superior State University criminal justice officials are once again getting ready to offer the series of courses required to obtain a corrections certificate. Associate Criminal Justice Professor Herbert Henderson said this time, most of the classes will be offered in the evenings and online. He hopes that will maximize the opportunity for older, non-traditional students, although it is open to traditional students as well. The deadline to sign up is Aug. 31, which is also the first day of classes. Students who pass the five courses in the program with a “C” grade or higher will then be able to apply to the Michigan Department of Corrections’ employee pool. If accepted, they will be put through an eight-week training program and assigned to a full-time position as a corrections officer in the Michigan prison system. Read More. |
