| Jail employee resigns after phone calls with inmate |

An employee at the Licking County Justice Center resigned after being overheard on phone calls with an inmate convicted of murder, including discussions on when he would be transferred to prison. Ann Bennett, 35, resigned Aug. 17 after being placed on administrative leave on Aug. 11 when she was confronted about the phone calls, Sheriff Randy Thorp said. Bennett had worked as a corrections officer inside the jail since 2007. Bennett was overheard on a phone call with Adam Runyons Jr., who was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison on Aug. 10. Thorp said jail employees will listen to the recorded phone calls made by inmates who have been convicted of “significant crimes” to monitor for potential threats to the inmate or others.
