Prison oversight needs new leader |

As an Arizona citizen, I have a real issue with Thursdays front page article "Prison contract canceled." My question is "Who is overseeing and inspecting these private prisons?" Obviously, no one. The article referred to the prison in Kingman as having a culture of disorganization, disengagement and disregard for state policies. How can this not be seen during an inspection? It also stated one-third of the deficiencies found at the Kingman facility five years ago still existed. What? Was no one following up to see if these deficiencies are corrected? The article states: "Kingman staff are not trained as per contract." Who's checking. Obviously, no one. It also states the private prisons are not telling the monitors what's happening. What? Do you know what this sounds like? It sounds like the Iranian deal where Iran gets to inspect themselves and tell you what they want you to hear and hope people are stupid enough to believe them. Don't ask a child in his room what he's doing. You check on him! Read More. |
