Published: 09/08/2015

The Connecticut Department of Correction is investigating an escape attempt from the Hartford Correctional Center.

At approximately 2:40pm, Saturday, September 5, 2015, the facility was alerted to an offender who had gained access to a roof from the outside recreation yard. Emergency protocols were immediately implemented, to include contact to the Connecticut State Police. As a result of the swift actions of the correctional staff on duty, the offender was quickly apprehended attempting to hide in the back of a facility truck parked on the grounds. At no time did the offender breach the secured perimeter fence, which protects the community and surrounds the facility property. There were no staff injuries reported.

The offender, who was later transferred to Northern Correctional Institution and charged with Attempted Escape 1st degree, was identified as 25 year old Raul Santana of Hartford. Santana has been in custody at Hartford Correctional Center since 9/1/2015 on a $15,000 bond for Criminal Trespass 1st degree.

The Department of Correction’s Security Division has initiated an investigation and the facility remains on lockdown status.
