| Bloodstains found in ex-NFL player, accused murderer Lawrence Phillips' cell, reports say |

Suspected bloodstains were found on clothing, bedsheets and pill supplement bottles in the cell former NFL player Lawrence Phillips shared with a convicted murderer in Kern Valley State Prison. Phillips’ cellmate, Damion Dewayne Soward, 37, lay unresponsive when corrections officers responded to Phillips’ calls of “man down” at 12:48 a.m. April 11, according to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports. Soward wasn’t breathing and had no pulse. Officers restrained Phillips — including placing brown paper bags on his hands and sealing them with masking tape to preserve evidence — and removed him from the cell as they began life-saving measures on Soward.
