Prison celebrates graduation

There is not much positive in a prison.

Inmates are locked up for years because of bad things they have done.

Sept. 2, there was a positive event at Anamosa State Penitentiary. A group of inmates graduated with their high school equivalencies or apprenticeship program certificates.

“This is a big deal to us,” Interim Warden Bill Sperfslage said. “It’s something positive in a world that hasn’t always been positive.”

Sperfslage said education is important inside Anamosa’s limestone walls.
