NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Sheriff Marlin Gusman says his office transferred 180 local pre-trial detainees from Orleans Parish Prison to jails in East Carroll and Franklin parishes.

In a news release, Sheriff Gusman describes the transfer as " in advance of the Sheriff's Office expected move into the new correctional complex next week."

The move brought a strong reaction from Mayor Mitch Landrieu's Office.

A statement from First Deputy Mayor Andy Kopplin fired back, "Sheriff Gusman insists on doing Governor Jindal's job for him at the expense of Orleans Parish taxpayers.
