| Task force: County jail faces several issues |

Members of a task force looking at the Jackson County Detention Center say the jail faces significant issues, including low pay for guards, mental health services and the condition of the jail itself. βThe facility is incredibly antiquated,β said task force member Lisa Pelofsky, a former Kansas City Police Board commissioner. County Executive Mike Sanders named the task force last month on the same day he announced that the FBI is investigating allegations of guards abusing inmates at the jail. He said the county Department of Corrections will cooperate fully with the FBI. The task force is looking at jail operations overall but faces a tight deadline β Nov. 2 β to issue its recommendations.
