| Agency says inmate didn't get proper care before her death |

MONTPELIER, Vt. A federally funded agency that investigates abuse and neglect of disabled Vermont residents issued a report Tuesday criticizing the state Department of Corrections over the death of a prison inmate. Disability Rights Vermont said the Jan. 9 death of Annette Douglas, 43, came after staff members at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility failed to provide her adequate medical care. "The overall disregard shown by staff and lack of even basic medical care for Ms. Douglas while she was in obvious medical distress is alarming," the report said in its conclusion. It demanded "that the Department urgently address these staff issues before any other prisoners suffered harm as a result of negligent medical care." Read More. |
