Prison chapel quickly taking shape

Outside walls on the new chapel at the Formby Prison Unit east of Plainview are up and the facility is quickly taking shape thanks to a 23-member crew from Texas Baptist Men Church Builders.

“That name really is a misnomer since there are two women on the crew,” explains Dr. Les Griffin, director of missions at Caprock Plains Baptist Area which is headquartered in Plainview.

“Construction is going quickly, but it’s been a slow process to get to this point,” Griffin says. Planning for the chapel -- a joint effort of Caprock Plains Baptist Area and Here to Eternity, Inc. -- began more than three years ago.

“With God’s help, nothing was going to stop this project,” Griffin says. “We have been able to overcome every obstacle and every challenge. Much is yet to be done, but we are doing this to give men in prison an opportunity to strengthen their lives through a fresh faith in God.”
