| Joyce Mitchell to be sentenced for role in prisoner escape |

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. —Former Clinton Correctional Facility employee Joyce Mitchell will learn her sentence Monday for her role in the escape of convicted murderers David Sweat and Richard Matt. Mitchell, 51, of Dickinson Center, New York, pleaded guilty in July to promoting prison contraband, a felony, and facilitating criminal activity, a misdemeanor. She will appear before a judge in Clinton County Court in Plattsburgh. At her arraignment, Mitchell admitted to smuggling hacksaw blades, chisels, a punch tool and a screwdriver into the maximum security prison in Dannemora, New York. She planned to be the getaway driver for Sweat and Matt when they escaped June 6. Mitchell never carried out her part of the escape plan and sought treatment at a hospital for a possible anxiety attack the night of the escape.
