| Two teams of corrections officers from Tecumseh prison lauded |

A dozen Tecumseh state prison employees who positively influenced the outcome of the May 10 riot were recognized Thursday during the annual Department of Correctional Services awards ceremony. Two special awards were presented related to the Tecumseh riot: the Super 6 award and the Leadership Under Pressure award. The May 10 disturbance started around 2:30 in the afternoon in a prison yard and lasted nearly 12 hours. Several staff members were assaulted, and two inmates were found dead in a housing unit, presumably killed by inmates. The Super 6 recognition went to officers and case managers who rescued a recreation specialist who had barricaded herself inside an office in the gym while out-of-control inmates were attempting to break in the door to reach her.
