| Oklahoma policy indicates lethal injection drugs can be stored |

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections claims its lack of authority to keep on-site the lethal drugs needed for executions led to the last minute mix-up and postponement of a lethal injection, but a policy review indicates otherwise. On Wednesday, the department was forced to halt the execution of Richard Glossip, 52, when it was discovered, just two hours before his scheduled 3 p.m. lethal injection, that one of the drugs received for the three-drug lethal cocktail was not approved for use in executions. The drugs were reportedly delivered to the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, which houses death row, on the day of the execution. The Corrections Department cannot keep lethal drugs on-site because it lacks licensure through the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drug Control, Corrections Director Robert Patton said during a Thursday news conference.
