Fights, stabbings and assaults are not unusual at St. Clair Correctional Facility. The prison is described as one of the most violent in Alabama, with at least five lock downs so far this year. "You can't tell the public they're being safe with the few officers we have," said Senator Cam Ward (R-Alabaster). Ward chairs Alabama's Prison Reform Task Force, aimed at reducing prison overcrowding. Part of the problem is that St. Clair's security team is understaffed.
