Oklahoma execution drug mix-up saga continues

Corrections officials are challenging a state grand jury's involvement in the investigation of an execution drug mix-up.

Corrections Department Director Robert Patton and other officials have been ordered to bring records or testify before the state's multicounty grand jury next week.

Their attorney, former Attorney General Drew Edmondson, asked the grand jury's judge on Thursday to quash the subpoenas for three reasons.

"The most significant is there's been no allegation of a crime, and it's beyond the jurisdiction of the multicounty grand jury. In my opinion, and I think the law supports that, that they can't just do a performance audit," Edmondson said. "There has to be an allegation of a crime. And I don't see one there."
