Houston, TX - A murder fugitive, wanted by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force was located and arrested by Mexican authorities on behalf of the United States on a city street in the beach town of Rosarito, Mexico near the U.S. – Mexico border. Last night after being identified as Troy Aaron Clay by a San Diego Police Detective Liaison on behalf of the U.S. Marshals Task Force in San Diego, Clay was returned to the United States and is currently awaiting extradition back to Harris County, Texas. Troy Aaron Clay II (42) had a short lived life on the run after stabbing his paramedic girlfriend to death and then confessing his crime to the mother of the deceased over the telephone. Leads and collaborative efforts by the U.S. Marshals, the Harris County Sheriff’s, San Diego Police, and the Mexican authorities ultimately led to his capture on a city street in Rosarito Mexico, near Tijuana. U.S. Marshal Gary Blankinship said “I would like to give special recognition to the investigators consisting of the Harris County Homicide Division, Deputy U.S. Marshals in both California and Texas and of course the San Diego Police Detective Liaison that developed the leads and intelligence necessary to determine the location of this fugitive in Mexico preventing a much longer international manhunt”. The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force is led by the U.S. Marshals Service and is comprised locally of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Houston Police Department, Texas Department of Corrections and Justice-OIG, Texas Department of Public Safety and United States State Department. The U.S. Marshals Service and its task forces nationwide have arrested over 140,000 violent fugitives in FY 2014.
