| Corrections officer suspended after Texas inmate's escape |

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Central Texas corrections officer has been suspended for 10 days without pay after an inmate escaped from an Austin hospital in June. The Austin American-Statesman reports (http://atxne.ws/1ReZvLx ) that Stephen Harris' supervisors in Travis County concluded he was derelict in his duties and violated department policies requiring officers to keep inmates restrained while in the hospital. Officials have said Dacious Parker fled his room when Harris went to the restroom. Authorities said Parker was at the hospital for treatment for possible paralysis, a condition they said he was faking in order to escape. Read More. |
