OSP warden announces retirement |

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections announced the warden of the state penitentiary in McAlester is retiring effective immediately. Anita Trammell filed her paperwork for retirement on Tuesday, a press release sent by the DOC stated. She will be using her accrued leave time until March 1. “I appreciate Anita Trammell’s long-time service to the state and the department,” Oklahoma Board of Corrections Chairman Kevin Gross said. “From her start in 1982, Anita has impressed her colleagues and coworkers with her work ethic, dedication and professionalism that has earned her numerous awards and accolades along the way. She will be hard to replace.” The News-Capital attempted to contact Trammell but was told she is not taking phone calls. Trammell started working as the OSP warden in 2013. During her time as warden, the state botched the execution of Clayton Lockett in 2014 when Lockett writhed in pain for minutes before dying. In 2015, Charles Warner’s executioners used the wrong drug to kill him. Also, the scheduled execution of Richard Glossip was delayed in September when authorities realized at the last minute they were in possession of the wrong drug. Read More. |
