| Some County Inmates Released Early on Good Behavior Due to Jail Overcrowding |

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (11/4/15) ― A few county jail inmates serving time on misdemeanor charges have been released early due to overcrowding in Hopkins County. The jailer has implemented a program in cooperation with the county attorney and court judges to decrease inmate capacity. Hopkins County Jail was cited Sept. 29 for holding too many inmates during one of two yearly state inspections, Jailer Joe Blue reported at the regular Fiscal Court meeting held Tuesday. Blue said it was the first time during his 10-years as jailer the facility had been cited for noncompliance. “On the date of our inspection, we were at 441 (inmates) in a 416-bed facility,” he said. After the inspector from the Kentucky Department of Corrections wrote the citation for noncompliance, Blue indicated he has been working with the county attorney’s office and local court judges to correct the problem by requesting early releases for inmates being held on misdemeanor charges.
