A corrections officer at the North Central Unit in Calico Rock was stabbed by an inmate Monday afternoon, according to Cathy Frye, public information officer for the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Officer Richard Cohoon was picking up lunch trays at 3:35 p.m. Monday when he stopped at inmate Cedrick Howe's cell. Howe reportedly attacked Cohoon, stabbing him with a weapon fashioned from a 7-inch piece of fencing wire, stabbing Cohoon once, according to Frye. Cohoon was able to get out of the housing unit on his own. The officer was transported to a medical facility where he was treated for a 1-centimeter puncture wound, according to Frye who said Cohoon was able to return to work the next day. Personnel from the Arkansas State Police are investigating the incident, noted Frye. Read More. |
