| DOC eyes Pauls Valley facility for potential prison |

PAULS VALLEY, Okla.- With 900 new inmates expected next year, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections is looking into acquiring the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center to combat the state’s prison overcrowding. The 590-acre property was one of two facilities in the state used to house and provide care for severely developmentally disabled individuals until a bill was passed in 2012 to close the facilities down and transition the patients to group homes. It was decided the facility in Pauls Valley was just too expensive to maintain. SORC’s last patient left in July of this year. The Northern Oklahoma Resource Center of Enid closed its doors in November 2014. State Representative Richard Morrissette says the closures were budget-cutting moves he vehemently opposed.
