The New Jersey Department of Corrections’ Office of Training will hold a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, November 10, 10 a.m., in the Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton.

NJDOC Commissioner Gary M. Lanigan will administer the Oath of Office to the 153 trainees who comprise the Basic Course for State Correction Officers, Class 235. The members of Class 235 completed a rigorous program that covered a wide variety of areas related to law enforcement.

The guest speaker will be Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, who was sworn into office as the state’s first Lt. Governor in January 2010. Ms. Guadagno served as a federal prosecutor, an assistant attorney general in New Jersey, the deputy director of the Division of Criminal Justice and as sheriff of Monmouth County before her election as Lt. Governor.

Class 235 represents 18 counties throughout the state. Nineteen trainees hail from Union County and 18 reside in Essex County. Other counties are represented as follows: Atlantic (seven), Bergen (14), Burlington (seven), Camden (three), Cumberland (seven), Gloucester (four), Hudson (eight) and Hunterdon (one). Also, Mercer (six), Middlesex (13), Monmouth (15), Morris (two), Ocean (13), Passaic (11), Somerset (one) and Warren (four).

Class 235 includes 15 individuals who have served in the military – five Marines, five Army National Guard, three Army and two Navy. There are a total of 56 members of Class 235 with college degrees.

Twenty-nine trainees are from law enforcement families; 14 are second generation, and three are third generation.

“The Office of Training provides corrections personnel with the skills necessary to successfully complete their tasks and to upgrade the care, treatment and social reintegration of adult offenders committed to our facilities,” Commissioner Lanigan noted. “I applaud the work of the instructors, and I congratulate our graduates and wish them long and satisfying careers.”
