| Escapee with 28 convictions indicted in traffic deaths of 2 women on the way to church |

A man described by lawmen as a career criminal with more than 60 arrests and 28 convictions has now been indicted in the deaths of two elderly women killed in a horrific crash while on their way to a morning church meeting. A Jefferson County grand jury on Oct. 23 indicted Martin J. Creasman on two counts of reckless murder, first-degree theft of property and obstruction of justice, according to court records made public this week. Creasman is charged in the deaths of 92-year-old Margie Smith Lovell, who was known by her nickname Deanie, and Linda Garrison Jones, 69, a longtime civil service employee at Birmingham Municipal Court. Jones, the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. Lovell was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital at 12:49 p.m. Both women were on their way to a Women's Circle Meeting at Avondale Methodist Church.
