| Legislation would allow aging, ill inmates in medical centers |

LANSING - State Reps. Al Pscholka and Dave Pagel on Wednesday introduced legislation that would allow the state parole board to send low-risk, medically frail prison inmates to a licensed care facility to complete their sentences. Medically frail, as defined in the legislation, includes a severe mental or physical disability, and the individual must be considered a minimal threat to society. Pscholka, who chairs the House Committee on Appropriations, said the legislation is part of ongoing reforms to the state's correctional system and addresses an aging and increasingly sickly prison population.
