| Karris beat Five Points cellmate ‘to a pulp,’ DA tells jury |

WATERLOO — “Have you ever heard the expression beaten to a pulp? That is what Brian Karris did to Thomas Blancke that day.” Seneca County District Attorney Barry Porsch used those words in his opening statement as testimony in Karris’ murder trial got underway Monday in county court. Porsch described the events that led to Blancke’s death on Dec. 14, 2013, in cell 23 of the special housing unit at Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus. Blancke had been in the cell since October, but Karris was assigned there just the day before. The two began arguing over a mattress (see related article). Porsch said at about 5:30 a.m., a hallway monitor that has video and audio capability recorded slapping and pounding noises coming from the cell. Read More. |
