| Union, lawmakers hope IG prison escape report brings change |

ALBANY, N.Y. —While convicted killers Richard Matt and David Sweat were on the run, Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered an investigation into how the duo could pull off the first escape from Clinton Correctional Facility in over a century. The report, to be issued by New York Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott, is expected to provide an in-depth look at all the factors that led up to the night Sweat and Matt got out. Five months later, there is still no report. In a news release following Sweat's guilty plea to escape charges, Leahy Scott sent out an audio statement to reporters. In it, she repeated that her office was working to finalize the extensive, multifaceted investigation into the escape. Although a thorough report is being promised, the fact that it remains in the hands of the inspector general months after the fact has some state lawmakers frustrated. Read More. |
