| Caddo Parish files lawsuit against DOC for damage to Forcht Wade |

Keithville, La. - Have you ever let a friend borrow something and when they gave it back, it was broken? That is exactly what happened between Caddo Parish and the Louisiana Department of Corrections. But they aren't working out their problems in the school yard, Caddo Parish is taking the DOC to court. Forcht Wade Correctional Center was built on Caddo Drive in Keithville in the 1970's. In 1997, Caddo Parish gifted the facilities to the state of Louisiana. Then in 2012, budget cuts forced the state to close the prison, and after two years of sitting empty Forcht Wade automatically returned to Caddo Parish in 2014. But parish officials quickly realized there were significant problems.In fact, a lawsuit filed in Caddo court says the buildings are unusable. Pictures provided by Caddo Parish officials show the mess left behind by the DOC, including 24.5 tons of trash and 10 tons of metal.
