CHEYENNE - Wyoming was recently selected as 1 of 4 States to participate in a National Summit on Paroling Authorities as Key Public Safety Partners. The Summit was part of a learning collaborative sponsored by the National Governors Association (NGA) and the National Parole Resource Center (NPRC), and was held in Washington D.C., on November 19th and 20th, 2015. Wyoming was selected through a competitive application process, along with Rhode Island, Iowa, and Utah. The Summit examined the latest research on best practices for paroling authorities and the critical role they can play in achieving governors’ public safety goals. The Parole Collaborative will continue into 2016, with return visits from NGA & NPRC staff to provide technical assistance aimed at developing recommendations for supporting and strengthening parole decision-making, policies, and practices. As part of the application process, Governor Mead appointed a team led by Dan Fetsco, Executive Director of the Wyoming Board of Parole; along with Gary Mitchell, Board of Parole Chairman; Bob Lampert, Director of the Department of Corrections (DOC); Steve Lindly, DOC Deputy Director; Cara Chambers, Director of the Wyoming Division of Victim Services, and Tony Young, Governor Mead’s Deputy Chief of Staff. “Selection for this important project of national significance is recognition of the good work that is being performed by corrections professionals in Wyoming,” said Fetsco. “We hope to learn more from this opportunity and refine our parole practices, making Wyoming a safer place for everyone.” |
