LCCF defends prisoner medical care

When Monica Siegfried entered the Lebanon County Correctional Facility in late 2013 after a probation violation, she was terrified – not of prison life itself, but because she would soon experience the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.

The process wasn’t fun. But Siegfried safely completed her detox thanks to attentive care by prison staff, particularly one caring woman who helped her endure bouts of diarrhea and dry heaves in the overnight hours.

“They were really on top of it,” she said.

However, not everyone she observed entering prison during two stints at the facility received prompt examinations from medical staff or attentive care, she said.
