Inmates accuse Lewisburg prison guards of using excessive force

LEWISBURG — Use of excessive force by corrections officers is a major complaint of inmates in the special management unit at the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary.

Those complaints are cited in a report issued by the District of Columbia Corrections Information Council and supported by the Lewisburg Prison Project.

The Corrections Information Council is an independent oversight body mandated by Congress and the District of Columbia Council to monitor and report on conditions of confinement at facilities where inmates from the district are incarcerated.

Its report issued in November was the result of on-site interviews with 28 D.C. inmates and the receipt of 42 letters, the CIC says.
