A Department of Corrections inmate was charged Monday with assaulting two corrections officers on Saturday. The inmate, John Anthony McCord, was charged with aggravated assault and assault on a peace officer as third-degree felonies and assault as a misdemeanor. Saturday, a corrections officer was escorting McCord to his cell from the showers when the suspect allegedly began punching the officer in the face. Court documents state that the officer briefly lost consciousness, awaking to find the suspect still reportedly striking him. In total, the officer stated, McCord punched him between five and six times and kicked him two or three times before being subdued by other officers. The officer reportedly sustained a possible concussion and swelling to his face and forehead. Later that day, another officer was performing an inspection of the cells and asked McCord to put his hands through the food tray slot so he could be handcuffed. While being handcuffed, McCord allegedly grabbed one of the officer’s arms and pulled it through the slot. The officer reportedly suffered two cuts to his arm as a result of McCord’s fingernails cutting into his arm. Another officer corroborated the allegation. Read More. |
