A 35-year-old prison inmate was stabbed to death today during a fight with another inmate at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Stiles Unit, prison officials said. The TDCJ said Darrell Gilbert was stabbed in the chest and upper arm with a 16-inch-long sharpened rod. He was taken to a Beaumont hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Gilbert was serving 20 years for manslaughter in Sabine County. He also had convictions for theft and delivery of marijuana in Jasper County. Prison officials identified the inmate involved in the fight with Gilbert as Reagan Caldwell, 47. He has been in the prison system since 1990, serving a life sentence for robbery and aggravated robbery out of Harris County. |
