| Auburn Correctional Facilty on lockdown amid manhunt |

As hundreds of officers searched North Country forests for two killers who escaped from the maximum security prison in Dannemora, an escape plan was also being worked on at Auburn Correctional Facility. The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision announced in late June that ACF had been on lockdown for several days because of the "the discovery of information related to the safety and security of the facility." The New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association later said that the lockdown followed the discovery of escape plans in an inmate's cell. Making plans and actually pulling off an escape are two different things, but the idea that someone at ACF was trying to find a way out was a bit disconcerting considering the anxiety hanging over upstate New York and beyond caused by two desperate men on the loose.
