| Six puppies graduate from Bedford Hills Correctional Facility training program to aid veterans |

Six Labrador retriever puppies graduated from the Puppies Behind Bars program at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility last week. The program teaches inmates how to raise service dogs for wounded veterans and explosive detection canines for law enforcement, according to the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. The dogs are paired with veterans returning from overseas, according to DOCCS. The six veterans who participated in the program hail from New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Alabama and California. Puppies Behind Bars pays for all training and veterans' expenses. The organization began at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in 1997, and has expanded to include Otisville, Fishkill and Downstate Correctional Facilities. Read More. |
