An inmate in the Placer County, Calif., main jail attacked a correctional officer Tuesday during dinner, causing moderate injuries to the officer, the Placer County Sheriff's Department reported. James Charles Swanson, 26, allegedly attacked correctional Officer Charles Lemley while he was preparing to provide the inmate a dinner tray. As Lemley, 31, stood by Swanson's partially opened cell door, Swanson forced the door open and immediately attacked Lemley, punching and choking him, a press release said. Lemley fought back and was aided by two inmate workers and several jail staff members in subduing the inmate, a press release said. Lemley received a cut to his forehead, a possible concussion, and bruises and abrasions to his arms and neck. He was treated and released from a local hospital. Swanson, of Roseville, was in custody on attempted murder charges from an incident that occurred in Roseville Jan. 27. Swanson was booked on an additional charge of attempted murder as a result of his alleged attack on Lemley. |
