| Menard Correctional Center prepping for possible flooding |

CHESTER, IL - Menard Correctional Center is prepping the facility for potential flooding in the coming days. According to the National Weather Service, the Mississippi River is expected to crest in Menard at 49.7 feet, a mark not seen since 1993. Staff at the correctional center anticipate a possibility of flooding inside the lower level cell houses and basements. To prepare, the Illinois Department of Corrections has provided temporary alternative housing for some offenders inside the facility and others have been transferred to other facilities. Read More. |
