| McNeil to discuss his run for sheriff |

Walt McNeil, former chief of the Tallahassee and Quincy police departments, will discuss his platform today for his campaign for Leon County sheriff. McNeil, 60, is having a news conference 11 a.m. at the Florida Press Center. In previous interviews about his candidacy, McNeil has said there's a great need for law enforcement to reconnect and build trust with the community to reduce violent crime. McNeil served as TPD chief from 1997 to 2007 before he was tapped by then-Gov. Charlie Crist to head up the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice and the Florida Department of Corrections. He became Quincy police chief in 2011, stepping down in 2014 before his run for sheriff. Read More. |
