| Lawrence Phillips' brain to be donated for CTE study, report says |

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. —Lawrence Phillips was found dead last week -- the Kern County coroner ruled it a suicide -- in the same single cell in Kern Valley State Prison he had occupied since the most recent allegation was levied against him nine months ago. Friday, USA Today Sports reported that his family will donate his brain to Boston University, where chronic traumatic encephalopathy researchers will analyze it, testing for CTE, an Alzheimer's-like disease. The report goes on to say that Phillips' mother, Juanita Phillips, agreed to donate the brain and have it studied by researchers who have identified CTE in the brains of 88 of the 92 former NFL players they've examined at BU.
