| Alabama Death Row inmate attorneys want to view IV prep for Thursday execution |

Attorneys for Alabama Death Row inmate Christopher Brooks are trying to stave off his execution Thursday night. But if and when it proceeds, they want to make sure records and items used during the execution are preserved so they can assist other inmates fighting the state's new lethal injection drug combination as cruel and unusual punishment. Brooks' attorneys with the Federal Public Defender's Office in Montgomery asked a federal judge Friday to order the Alabama Department of Corrections to allow them to witness the insertion of the intravenous lines used to administer the lethal drugs. In executions past, by the time witnesses and attorneys are brought into the witness rooms, the IVs are already inserted. The attorneys also are asking that all documents, records and packaging used in performing the lethal injection be preserved. Read More. |
