ELMA — Senator Patrick Gallivan has announced that the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervisions (DOCCS) is looking to recruit new Corrections Officers.

To qualify, applicants must have a high school diploma, or an equivalent degree, and be 21 years old at the time of appointment.

“The Department is looking for the best candidates possible to serve in the various correctional facilities across New York,” Gallivan said in the press-release. “As a former New York State Trooper and Sheriff, I know that being a correction officer is a challenging, but rewarding job. I encourage men and women interested in serving their community to take the exam.”

According to the DOCCS website, accepted candidates will complete an eight-week formal training, which is a part of a full, 12-month training program.
