The arts are a big deal at Sussex Correctional Institution. The Georgetown prison’s therapeutic art program has a two-year waiting list for inmates. One of its benefits is allowing artists to showcase and sell their work to the public since 2012. The Greater Millsboro Art League sponsors the Sussex Correctional Institution Art Show and Contest every year. “It’s a program that a lot of guys want to get into,” said Nancy Thomas, SCI master correctional officer and the therapeutic art program organizer. “The benefits are, with it being a therapeutic program, the guys realize they have talent that’s valuable to other people.” Read More. |
