SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Utah News) - Salt Lake area police are saying enough is enough when it comes to crimes committed by parole fugitives. Last September, Robert Berger held a woman at knifepoint in her home before he was shot and killed by a Salt Lake City police officer. Last month, Cory Lee Henderson, fatally shot Salt Lake Unified Police Officer Doug Barney before he was shot and killed and Tuesday night, police say that Thomas Burnham used a stolen car to ram a police cruiser during a pursuit. As of late Wednesday night he was still on the loose. Each of these three individuals walked away from Fortitude Treatment Center, a residential halfway house on 9th West that houses 306 parolees transitioning from prison to the community. "That's a condition of their parole that they stay in compliance with what they're ordered to do at these places," Lieutenant Lex Bell of the Salt Lake Unified Police Department said."So they know if they leave those places they're an escapee."
