Kewanee Mayor Steve Looney was notified late Thursday of the closing of the Illinois Youth Center-Kewanee by State Sen. Chuck Weaver, R-Peoria. “I feel sorry for all the staff out there,” Looney said. “A lot of them are friends of mine. One of them’s a neighbor.” Looney said the closing will have an impact on Kewanee’s economy, including displacing about 200 workers at the facility. Read More. |
