| Wait drags on for Schuykill Co. inmate transfers |

POTTSVILLE — The Schuylkill County prison board said Wednesday they are still waiting on the state Department of Corrections to finish its transfer protocols before sending inmates from the county prison to other facilities. The board authorized agreements in November with George W. Hill Correctional Facility, Thornton, to house the men and the State Correctional Institution-Muncy to house the women. In July 2015, the state DOC made an agreement with the county to reduce its inmate population or risk not being allowed to house any additional prisoners. The agreement was to bring the inmate population back to the prison’s approved capacity of 277 and eliminate triple celling, which is three inmates being housed in a cell meant for one or two.
