Tenn. correctional facilities to offer state IDs and licenses

Offenders in Tennessee will be able to get valid state identification and driver's licenses before their release thanks to a new program, the Tennessee Department of Corrections announced.

TDOC and the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security have entered into an agreement to purchase and install license issuance equipment in the state's correctional facilities. The department began Wednesday processing applications and renewals for eligible offenders nearing their release dates.

The purchase was made using existing TDOC resources, meaning no new taxpayer funding or staffing was needed, TDOC said in a release.
