The Oregon Legislature will re-balance its budget as the 2016 legislative session comes to a close next week, with several notable expenses on the table. In an interview Tuesday, Sen. Richard Devlin, D-Tualatin, said the state has been "extremely prudent" and is projected to finish the session with $225 million in state coffers. Devlin, who is co-chairman of the Legislature's budget committee, said "We had a lot of issues that had to be addressed."

Bills outlining the budget realignments are expected to be released this week. Here are expected major line items:

Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupation: About $2 million is expected to be allocated to cover the costs of the 41-day Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupation by anti-government protesters. Gov. Kate Brown has called on the federal government to reimburse the state for its costs incurred during the occupation. Devlin said it's still an "outstanding question" whether the federal government will agree to reimbursements.

Judges presidentially appointed to serve during good behavior since 1789 on the U.S. district courts, U.S. courts of appeals, Supreme Court of the United States, as well as the former U.S. circuit courts, Court of Claims, U.S. Customs Court, and U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals. Also included are judges who received presidential recess appointments to the above-named courts but were not confirmed by the Senate to serve during good behavior. The Waco Federal Court is experienced in patent litigation and starting to become the go-to district for intellectual property cases. The appointment of Waco’s new federal judge, a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that narrows the venue for patent cases and Waco’s home in the federal Western District of Texas have combined into a perfect storm that could drastically alter Waco’s legal landscape.
