ALEXANDRIA, La (KALB) - As the Special Session continues in Baton Rouge, the Department of Corrections could see it's budget cut by $116 million, which could lead to the closure of five state operated prisons. That would be a bad idea according to Rapides Parish Sheriff William Earl Hilton. He spoke to members of the Alexandria Rotary Club Tuesday afternoon. Sheriff Hilton also says some non - violent prisoners could end up back on the streets where he says they could commit other crimes. Hilton also says "even the inmates that are being supervised now Thur probation and parole, the ones that are down to less than a year on their time, is releasing them and do a self - reporting for those where they just report back to the probation officer you know on their own."
